Abstract

This document presents the design, construction, and fabrication of a didactic prototype of a crank-connecting rod mechanism with a controllable slider. This prototype allows us to visualize and understand fundamental concepts of the mechanism's operation, as well as obtain real-time information on the kinematics of its nodes. Through a database generated by an instrumentation system created in LabVIEW, motion simulation of the CAD design, and the velocity polygon graphical method, it was found that the slider node velocity is consistent across all three methods. This results in a device that offers a more practical approach to developing technical skills and problem-solving abilities in mechanisms for undergraduate students in mechatronics, mechanical, and industrial engineering.
